International relations

Version française ›››

The Faculty has a presence that has long extended beyond Canadian borders.

Every year, it welcomes several hundred foreign students, and its researchers collaborate with many research teams throughout the world.

The Faculty’s international activities are based first and foremost in collaborations issued from agreements between the Université de Montréal with some 150 educational institutions throughout the world.

Our professor-researchers have numerous contacts and joint activities with collaborators in many countries. Many of these partners are actively involved in carrying out international research programs. Through their participation in diverse areas of research and the scientific excellence of their work, our researchers are often honoured with prizes and international recognition.

The Faculty’s international activities are also illustrated by the importance it puts on students’ mobility

Every year, the Faculty of Medicine welcomes many kinds of students, thanks to collaboration with its extensive network of health facilities. Some of these are:

  • nearly 190 foreign students on student visas from Algeria, Brazil, China, France, Haiti, Libya, Morocco and Romania, to name a few;
  • some 90 clinical fellowship recipients, mainly from France, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Argentina and Libya;
  • more than 150 students in various clinical and research internships. These students come from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Morocco, Poland, Libya, Rwanda and Italy.

Student exchange programs have also been developed so that every year several dozen of our students can benefit from faculties of medicine abroad. Students also have access to various programs that combine training and thesis mentoring.

In the Faculty, the Unité de santé internationale (USI) leads cooperation projects in almost thirty countries in the following continents: Africa, Central and South America, Eastern Europe and Asia.

The Faculty of Medicine actively participates in work by the Conférence internationale des doyens et des facultés de médecine d’expression française (CIDMEF) and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
